Avani Museum Quarter Amsterdam: A Bold Gem that Surprises You

November 25, 2025

With an enviable location for those wishing to explore the city's art and culture, the Avani Museum Quarter Amsterdam Hotel is an ode to balanced and functional design, with its aesthetic curated by Spanish interior design studio El Equipo Creativo.

Located near major cultural landmarks such as the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, and only a five-minute walk from De Pijp and Pc Hooftstraat, this 4-star hotel blends vibrant design with smart functionality, all while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainability.

Part of the Minor Hotels group, Avani Museum Quarter Amsterdam features 163 rooms and suites, a contemporary restaurant, a gym, meeting facilities, and inviting common areas. Here, the Avani philosophy emerges in every detail: a harmonious balance between style and warmth, and a seamless fusion of guest experience and well-being.

From the outside, the hotel’s avant-garde identity immediately stands out, with its rationalist architecture expressed through a glass façade that blends seamlessly with the renovated mid-century brick structure. Once inside, guests are greeted by an open-plan lobby lounge, a relaxing social hub adjacent to the reception area, defined by cheerful, playful interiors and stunning views of the canal outside.

The design team thoughtfully selected pendant lamps from Faro Barcelona that introduce rhythm and character. This deliberate choice invites guests to unwind from the moment they arrive, creating a memorable first impression that captures the spirit of hospitality at the core of the project. Glossy materials, geometric patterns and solid color palettes found in the rugs, tiles, and soft furnishings draw inspiration from the works of notable 20th-century artists, completing the artistic dialogue that permeates the hotel's interior design.

The liveliness continues into the breakfast room, which serves a delicious breakfast buffet every morning featuring local pastries, freshly prepared hot dishes, healthy bites, vegan treats, and energizing smoothies. In the warmer months, the outdoor terrace overlooking a tree-lined internal courtyard, offers a serene setting for a leisurely breakfast. While in cooler seasons, the indoor fireplace adds warmth and comfort, reinforcing the inviting atmosphere.

The ground floor also houses The Pantry, a grab-and-go dining concept representative of the Avani brand.

For fitness lovers, in addition to being close to the jogging routes of Vondelpark or along the canal below, downstairs the property has a gym with state-of-the-art equipment. And also here, design takes center stage. The space is energized by a bold red-and-white zigzag floor pattern, instantly adding movement and dynamism to the room. A striking neon sign reading “Sport Is Art” anchors the space with a contemporary, urban touch, while warm vertical light fixtures create a balanced, gallery-like atmosphere. The result is a fitness area that feels not only functional, but stipulating!

Spread across seven floors, the hotel's rooms and suites, draw inspiration from the 1960s, with particular attention to color and thoughtful details. Blue, green, coral, and orange coexist in perfect harmony creating a refreshing yet soothing palette that instantly elevates the guest experience. Large floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light and open onto expansive views of Amsterdam’s rooftops, further reinforcing the room’s sense of openness. Curved furniture pieces, a pastel-colored rug, and a compact lounge corner contribute to the inviting residential feel making each room a stylish yet comforting retreat for modern travelers. For more relaxed atmosphere, soft lighting has been chosen. A sculptural floor lamp provides a warm, enveloping glow while its geometric and slightly industrial character adds further personality to the space. For the bedside reading area, a minimalist black wall sconce offers functional illumination without disrupting the room’s clean aesthetic.

The bathrooms continue the hotel’s design narrative: clean lines, spacious walk-in showers, and elegant matte-black fixtures create a contemporary look that echoes the geometric accents. Soft, indirect lighting ensures a relaxing atmosphere, while high-quality amenities and eco-friendly toiletries reflect Avani’s commitment to both comfort and sustainability.

In a city often associated with understated tones and historic charm, Avani Museum Quarter introduces vibrant colors and an unexpected design language that feels both refreshing and authentic. By balancing aesthetics, comfort, and responsible design, the project offers an inspiring model for interior designers and architects seeking efficient yet distinctive solutions within Amsterdam’s contemporary hospitality scene.
